WHERE CAN I FIND CHILD CARE LICENSING REGULATIONS AND CONTACT INFORMATION FOR MY STATE?

State governments are responsible for child care / daycare licensing standards and regulations.  This means that they develop a set of basic requirements that child care facilities must follow in order to legally operate.

Since each state has a different set of rules, knowing the specifics for your state is critical to your program.  Here is a tool that provides easy-access to the regulations for each state.

The National Database of Child Care Licensing Regulations is a repository of state licensing regulations and agency contact information. It is organized by state and allows users to access child care licensing regulations that apply to child care centers, family child care homes, school-age programs, and infant care programs, and other specialized programs.

Additional requirements for child care facilities may be in state statutes, administrative codes, or other local, state, or Federal laws not included in this database.  Such information can be requested through the agency contact information provided.

Many early childhood programs are choosing to meet additional early childhood program standards to expand their services and access new funding streams.  In addition to licensing regulations, website links are provided for other early childhood programs standards, such as Quality Rating and Improvements System (QRIS) standards, Pre-K program requirements, and state health and safety requirements for child care providers receiving payment from the federal Child Care and Development Fund.
